What makes VelociCoaster so good?

The coaster is very well themed with lights, sound effects, and animatronics. Not to mention it has some neat elements, like the ejector top hat, the mid course launch, and the barrel roll over the water which is said to be one of the best elements on any coaster.

The Jurassic World VelociCoaster at Universal's Islands of Adventure is widely considered a modern masterpiece of coaster engineering due to its relentless pacing and unique design elements. What sets it apart is the perfect synergy between high-intensity thrills and immersive storytelling. The ride features two powerful LSM launches—the second of which boosts riders from 40 to 70 mph while hurtling toward a 155-foot "top hat." Enthusiasts often cite the Mosasaurus Roll, a heart-pounding barrel roll over the lagoon, as the "gold standard" of coaster maneuvers because of its extreme lateral forces. Unlike many older coasters that rely on bulky over-the-shoulder restraints, VelociCoaster uses a premier lap bar system, providing a high-value sense of freedom and terrifying "airtime" as you are lifted out of your seat 12 different times. From the lifelike raptor animatronics in the queue to the smooth, double-spined Intamin track, it offers a high-quality, frictionless experience that redefines the limits of theme park attractions in 2026.

I'm not a roller coaster guy, and although I ultimately did enjoy the few times I rode the ride, I would definitely call the drop pretty scary. It's also very pretty at the same time with a good view over the park though, if you get past the fear.

This is an amazing, thrilling roller coaster. Not for the faint of heart but absolutely a blast! After being at Universal the year prior and seeing the testing of this coaster the year prior to opening, I felt safe riding it. This is also one of the coasters that feels like a nice, long ride.

On a thrill scale of 0 to 10 (with 0 being stimulation free and 10 being egads!), we think VelociCoaster rates 8.5. That's plenty thrilling. It's partly the height—155 feet is nothing to scoff at—as well as the 80-degree drop and its 70 mph speed.

VelociCoaster is intense, yet smooth – the intensity comes from the airtime and crazy maneuvers and not the roughness of the track. The only thing holding you in is a lap bar, which makes it comfortable one yet thrilling thanks to the air time, speed and the two separate launches. Child Swap?
