The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) provides bus and rail transit service to Washington, DC and the Maryland and Virginia suburbs. The only down side is the trains run a little less frequently at that time of night, but it is perfectly safe. I agree with MikeT. My friend and I (women in their 20's) felt completely safe taking the Metro at night. Enjoy DC!
