To see Mt. Fuji while traveling on the Tokaido Shinkansen (the bullet train between Tokyo and Osaka/Kyoto), you must sit on the inland side of the train. If you are heading West (from Tokyo toward Osaka), you should book a window seat on the right-hand side, which is designated as Seat E in standard cars or Seat D in Green Cars. If you are heading East (from Osaka toward Tokyo), the mountain will be on your left-hand side, but the seat remains Seat E because the seats are rotated to face the direction of travel. The best view occurs approximately 40–45 minutes after leaving Tokyo (or about 2 hours after leaving Osaka), specifically around the Shin-Fuji Station area. For the clearest view, it is best to travel in the early morning during winter or spring, as summer haze often obscures the peak by midday.
