Why do I sometimes get TSA PreCheck on my boarding pass?
The airline is required to send their manifest to TSA prior to boarding pass issuance. That is one reason boarding passes are not available until 24 hours before the flight. Through an algorithm that of course they won't disclose, low risk travelers are given Pre status from time-to-time.
