A Spain Pavilion was actually a proposed "Phase 2" project for EPCOT's World Showcase in the 1980s, but it was ultimately scrapped due to a lack of a finalized sponsorship agreement. Under Disney's original model, pavilions required financial backing from the host country's government or major domestic corporations. In the case of Spain, political and economic shifts in the Spanish government at the time led to the withdrawal of funding. In 2026, while many fans lobby for a Spain pavilion featuring a Hercules or Wish themed attraction and a tapas bar, Disney has prioritized "EPCOT Transformation" projects like Journey of Water and the CommuniCore plaza. Since Disney now largely funds its own expansions, adding a new country is a massive multi-billion dollar investment that they haven't yet greenlit in favor of updating existing "legacy" pavilions.
