Will MagicBand Plus work if not charged?

Certain MagicBand+ functionality and features, such as automatic association of Disney PhotoPass attraction photos to your linked Disney account, software updates, customization settings, and use with certain Park and Resort interactive experiences may be affected if the MagicBand+ battery is not adequately charged.

A MagicBand+ will continue to function for its most essential "tap" features even if the battery is completely depleted. Because the band contains a passive RFID chip similar to the original MagicBands, you can still use it to enter Disney theme parks (with valid admission), unlock your Disney Resort hotel room door, and check in for Lightning Lane selections. It also remains functional for charging food and merchandise purchases to your room. However, the "Plus" features that require active power—such as the haptic vibrations, color-changing LED light effects during nighttime spectaculars, and the Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters interactive game—will not work until the band is recharged. Additionally, "long-range" features like the automatic linking of on-ride photos to your account may be less reliable if the battery is dead. To ensure all the high-tech bells and whistles are active for your day at the park, it is best to charge the band nightly using the included proprietary USB cable.

They run off of a small battery inside the band. Disney says the batteries are designed to last for 2 years. I have read of batteries lasting for up to five years. Since a Disney Magic Band is just a link to your My Disney Experience account, it can be used for many trips until the battery no longer works.
