Are Disney water parks worth it?

While their reputations are dwarfed by theme parks like Magic Kingdom and Epcot, the Disney World water parks are among the best places in Orlando to splash and cool off.

Whether Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach is "worth it" in 2026 depends on your love for theming and your swimming ability. Typhoon Lagoon is famous for the world's largest outdoor surf pool, which produces massive 6-foot waves that can literally knock you over—it’s a "must-do" for thrill-seekers and strong swimmers. Blizzard Beach, conversely, offers a more whimsical "melted ski resort" theme and is home to Summit Plummet, one of the world's tallest and fastest free-fall slides. For families, these parks offer a much more relaxed pace than the four main theme parks and provide a perfect "rest day" activity. In 2026, the value is even higher for guests staying at Disney Resort hotels, who currently receive free water park admission on their check-in day. While the slides are excellent, the real value lies in the "Lazy Rivers"—like Typhoon Lagoon’s Castaway Creek—which provide a 20-minute shaded loop of pure relaxation that acts as the perfect antidote to the "theme park hustle."

The two water parks differ in their ownership, but the major difference between Typhoon Lagoon and Volcano Bay is the attractions. Volcano Bay, which is a Universal park, favors more thrilling attractions, with several large water slides. Typhoon Lagoon in Disney World is geared more toward a relaxing experience.

It's not 100% necessary because there are lots of water sprinklers across the paths. I'm a bit mixed on them. Some slides have to be barefoot, so there are shoe racks at the entrance. However, often the exit to the slide is ages away from the shoe rack to you have to hoof it back to get your shoes.
