Can I pick up JR Pass at any station?

To activate your Japan Rail Pass, please go to any JR office. They are spread through most Japanese Airports, such as Narita and Haneda. You can also find them at all the main train stations, located across the country.

No, you cannot pick up a Japan Rail (JR) Pass at "any" station; you can only exchange your "Exchange Order" at designated JR Exchange Offices located in major stations and international airports. These are typically called "JR Ticket Offices" (Midori-no-madoguchi) or dedicated "JR Pass Exchange Corners." Major hubs like Narita Airport, Haneda Airport, Tokyo Station, Shinjuku, Kyoto, and Osaka have these facilities. If you purchased your pass directly through the official "JR-West" or "JR-Central" websites in 2026, you may be able to use a Reserved Seat Ticket Machine equipped with a passport scanner to collect your pass, but this is only available at specific stations. You must have your physical passport with a "Temporary Visitor" stamp to collect the pass. It is important to check the operating hours of the exchange office before you arrive, as many smaller regional offices close in the early evening, while airport offices typically remain open later to accommodate international arrivals.
