Does Trenitalia own Trenord?

Founded on May 3, 2011 by the two current shareholders, FNM and Trenitalia, Trenord is one of the most important companies in the European rail local public transport, both in terms of size and capillarity of the service.

As far as I can tell, the Trenitalia Pass is only valid on Freccia, FrecciaLink, InterCity, InterCity Night, and EuroCity trains within Italy. The train from Milan to Tirano is a regional train operated by Trenord, so does not qualify for the Trenitalia Pass.

The trains are well equip, well air conditioned, the bathrooms were great, especially the first class bathrooms were great. First time used first class and it was a great experience. We found some great tickets from Rome to Venice and was the best choice for the long trip. The ride to Bologna was great too, on time.
