Is Salou full of Brits?

The town of Salou is a favourite destination with British tourists; it's located on the Costa Dorada, or 'the Gold Coast', in the Catalonia region of Spain.

Salou, located on Spain's Costa Dorada, definitely has a very strong British presence, particularly during the peak summer months. It has been a favorite "fly-and-flop" destination for UK tourists for decades due to its proximity to Reus Airport, its long sandy beaches, and the massive PortAventura World theme park. Many bars and restaurants in the "Carlos Buigas" (the main tourist strip) cater specifically to British tastes, offering full English breakfasts, British ale, and live football screenings. However, Salou is by no means exclusively British. It is also a major holiday destination for Spanish families from Barcelona and Aragon, as well as French, Dutch, and Irish tourists. In 2026, the town has made a concerted effort to diversify its tourism "brand," focusing more on sports tourism and family-friendly gastronomy to appeal to a wider European audience. While you will certainly hear plenty of English accents and find "British-style" pubs, Salou still retains its Catalan identity, especially if you venture a few blocks away from the main beachfront strip toward the older parts of the town or the nearby port of Cambrils.
