With all of the restrictions against smoking in the Disneyland Resort, there is one location where you can smoke all you want in the outdoor common area: Downtown Disney. Trash cans in Downtown Disney come with ashtrays.

In 2026, Disneyland Resort (including Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure, and the Downtown Disney District) remains a strictly smoke-free environment. This policy applies to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and all forms of vaping or e-cigarettes. Smokers who wish to light up must physically exit the security perimeter of the parks and the Esplanade. The nearest designated smoking areas are typically located in specific outdoor spots near the Toy Story Parking Area or on the public sidewalks along Harbor Boulevard and Katella Avenue. Once outside the gates, smokers must re-clear security and go through the bag check process to re-enter the parks. Smoking marijuana is strictly prohibited anywhere on Disney property, regardless of its legal status in California. For those staying at Disney Resort hotels, smoking is also banned in rooms and on balconies; guests must use the specific "Designated Smoking Areas" located in outdoor, low-traffic areas of the hotel grounds. Failure to comply can result in a "Room Recovery Fee" of up to $500 or, in extreme cases, removal from the park without a refund.
