Jet2.com has suspended services to the Red Sea because of the “turbulent episodes in Egypt” and has added more than 70,000 seats to five destinations in Spain and one in Portugal, with departures from four of its eight operational bases in northern England and Scotland.

Historically, Jet2 avoided Egypt due to regional instability and the shifting demand of the UK leisure market, focusing instead on "Western" Mediterranean spots like Spain and Greece. However, in a major strategic shift for 2026 and 2027, Jet2 has officially announced its return to Egypt. Starting in early 2027, the airline will launch year-round services to the Red Sea hotspots of Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada from several UK bases, including Manchester, London Stansted, and Birmingham. The delay in entering this market was largely due to the time required to secure hotel partnerships and ensure a stable security environment that meets their strict operational standards. For travelers looking to fly in 2026, you will likely still need to use competitors like TUI or EasyJet, as Jet2's full Egyptian program is currently in its "ramp-up" phase with the first flights scheduled to commence in February 2027. This expansion marks a significant move to compete for the lucrative "winter sun" market.
