The pools at Universal’s Volcano Bay vary significantly in depth to accommodate different activities. The main leisure pool, The Reef, is approximately 5.5 feet (1.7 meters) deep and features a waterfall. The Waturi Beach wave pool features a zero-entry shore that gradually sloped down to a depth of about 5 feet. However, the "plunge" pools at the end of the high-speed slides are much deeper for safety; the OhYah and OhNo drop slides end in a pool that is 10 feet (3 meters) deep to ensure riders do not hit the bottom after their 4-to-6-foot vertical drop into the water. Because of these depths, Universal requires children under 48 inches to wear life jackets in the main pools, and the plunge pools are strictly for strong swimmers.
