How do you skip lines at Volcano Bay?

It's Simple to Hop into the Virtual Line™. Here's how to get in the ride lines at Volcano Bay: Tap in at an attraction with your TapuTapu™ wearable and you're in the Virtual Line™ experience. You're free to explore the park while your TapuTapu™ wearable counts down the minutes to your return time.

At Universal's Volcano Bay, you don't "skip" lines in the traditional sense; instead, you use the TapuTapu wearable to join a "Virtual Line." When you arrive at an attraction, you tap your TapuTapu waterproof wristband against a totem, which "holds your place" in line while you go swim in the wave pool or relax in the lazy river. When your wristband vibrates and says "Ride Now," you return to the attraction with a minimal wait. However, if you want to truly bypass the virtual wait entirely, you must purchase the Universal Express Plus pass. In 2026, this pass allows you to skip the virtual line for almost all attractions, giving you instant access to the slides. A "pro-tip" for 2026 is that staying at a Universal "Premier" hotel (like Portofino Bay or Royal Pacific) grants you free Express passes for the theme parks, but not for Volcano Bay; for the water park, you must always purchase the Express pass separately or rely on the strategic "tapping" of your TapuTapu to maximize your day.

The two water parks differ in their ownership, but the major difference between Typhoon Lagoon and Volcano Bay is the attractions. Volcano Bay, which is a Universal park, favors more thrilling attractions, with several large water slides. Typhoon Lagoon in Disney World is geared more toward a relaxing experience.

Express Pass at VB is VITAL on busy days. I rarely buy UXP for the other parks, but it's a must there. If you've never been or used the Tapu Tapu system it's great, but on very busy days it can't handle the crowds. Buying UXP eliminates that.

For each ride, you'll need to tap into the Virtual Line™ experience to secure your ride time. You can only tap into one ride at a time. But keep a lookout for slides whose entrance signage reads Ride Now! You'll be able to jump right onto those rides without losing your place in another attraction's Virtual Line™.

It's not 100% necessary because there are lots of water sprinklers across the paths. I'm a bit mixed on them. Some slides have to be barefoot, so there are shoe racks at the entrance. However, often the exit to the slide is ages away from the shoe rack to you have to hoof it back to get your shoes.
