How fast is the Tron ride takeoff?

The ride speeds up to 59 miles per hour at the start, making it, along with its sister ride, TRON Lightcycle Power Run in Shanghai, the fastest at any Disney park in the world.

The "takeoff" or launch of TRON Lightcycle / Run—located at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World and Shanghai Disneyland—is incredibly fast, propelling riders from 0 to nearly 60 miles per hour (approx. 97 km/h) in just a few seconds. This high-speed launch is the most thrilling part of the attraction, designed to simulate the sensation of being "digitized" and thrust into the computer world known as "The Grid." The ride uses a linear synchronous motor (LSM) launch system that provides a smooth but powerful burst of acceleration. As the lightcycles accelerate, they exit the "Upload Conduit" (the indoor loading area) and surge outside underneath a massive, color-shifting canopy before twisting back into the dark interior section of the ride. At the time of its opening, it became the fastest roller coaster at any Disney theme park, narrowly edging out Rock 'n' Roller Coaster and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. The unique "motorbike" seating position, where riders lean forward and are secured by a back restraint, intensifies the feeling of speed, as your face is positioned closer to the track and the wind, making the 60 mph launch feel even more visceral and breathtaking than a traditional sit-down coaster launch.

I fit great on the test seats and had an easy time loading onto the ride itself. I did see a woman of a similar size as me for whom the test seats did not work, and I think it was because she had larger calves. The ride has a bar that drops behind your calves as a point of security.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror If we're talking about the scariest rides at Disney World, I had to start with The Tower of Terror. I mean, it's all in the name! From the ghostly holograms, the 'death' defying drop(s) to the sinister theming, everything is designed to scare the Mickey outta you – and it really does.

The ride is adjacent to Space Mountain, Disney's original high-thrill coaster, which will make comparisons inevitable. Tron is smoother and much faster – Space Mountain maxes out at a relatively tame 27 mph. But the nostalgic in me preferred the jerky, in-the-dark dips and turns of Space Mountain.
