Is Tron like Test Track?

TRON Lightcycle Run delivers 100-percent pure adrenaline. It's smooth like Slinky Dog, fast like Test Track. And since you're strapped into an open-air lightcycle, it's much more intimate. It puts Rock 'n Rollercoaster's catapult launch to shame.

No, TRON Lightcycle / Run is significantly different from Test Track, even though both are high-speed "Tomorrowland" style attractions at Disney World. Test Track is a "simulated car" ride that reaches a top speed of 65 mph on a flat outdoor loop; its intensity comes from speed and wind, but it does not have drops or coaster-style gravity elements. In contrast, TRON is a high-speed roller coaster that uses a unique "motorcycle" seating position where you lean forward and are secured by a back and calf restraint. While TRON is slightly slower than Test Track (topping out at 60 mph), it feels much more intense because of its "launch" out of the station and its vertical climbs and sharp banked turns under an illuminated canopy. TRON is much shorter—lasting only about 60 seconds—whereas Test Track is a longer, narrative-driven experience. If you enjoy the speed of Test Track, you will likely handle TRON well, but be prepared for a much more physical "coaster" sensation rather than a fast car ride.

People Also Ask

If so, TRON should be on your list! It's not the fastest ride in Disney World (that title goes to Test Track, which tops out at about 65 MPH), but it's pretty close. During the initial launch, TRON riders get close to hitting 60 MPH. Essentially, it's about as fast as if you were riding a motorcycle on the highway.

It feels fast, but smoother than Big Thunder and Space Mountain. Tron is definitely not a family coaster. It has a height restriction of 48 first of all, and the launch is as intense as many extreme coasters. Seven Dwarfs and Slinky Dog are family coasters.

TRON does move up and down a fair bit, but there's very little of that “stomach-drop” feeling with your feet leaving the floor. That's for two reasons. The first is that on a Lightcycle your head points down, not your feet. But the bigger reason is that almost all of TRON's rise-and-drop motion includes a turn.

On the main Disney World page for Tron, it's described as having 'Big Drops'. This just seems odd to me, as everything I have read/seen about the ride describes it as fairly tame (minus the launch) with no real big drops, certainly no more than Guardians of the Galaxy which is listed as 'Small Drops'.

At the end of the day, if your child doesn't like thrill rides, TRON is not the one for them. However, even children who DO like thrill rides may find this one too intimidating, loud, or intense. If you don't know whether your child likes thrill rides, this is not a good starter coaster.

Overall milder than Guardians. Tron is somewhere in between what you seem to be ok with or not. Lots of fun. It feels fast, but smoother than Big Thunder and Space Mountain.

It's extremely smooth, like EPCOT's Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, without the spinning. And like EPCOT's Test Track, part of the track goes outdoors. The indoor portion is relatively dark, but not scary. It's thrilling.

In the end, TRON Lightcycle / Run is a wildly fun ride, and it's something we look forward to doing every single time we come to the Magic Kingdom. It's a must-do, and it indeed makes things even better that it replaced absolutely nothing.

The ride is adjacent to Space Mountain, Disney's original high-thrill coaster, which will make comparisons inevitable. Tron is smoother and much faster – Space Mountain maxes out at a relatively tame 27 mph. But the nostalgic in me preferred the jerky, in-the-dark dips and turns of Space Mountain.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror If we're talking about the scariest rides at Disney World, I had to start with The Tower of Terror. I mean, it's all in the name! From the ghostly holograms, the 'death' defying drop(s) to the sinister theming, everything is designed to scare the Mickey outta you – and it really does.

That said, many of the initial reviews of the ride noted how short the actual ride experience is. From launch to final deceleration, you're looking at about 60 seconds of ride time.
