Is Tron too short?

In our initial impressions article, we concluded that the ride was too short. Yes, it's only slightly shorter than Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, but the fact that there aren't any novel elements to the roller coaster beyond the initial launch doesn't really leave you guessing or anticipating anything.

TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom is frequently criticized by guests for its short duration, despite being one of the most technologically advanced coasters in Disney's portfolio. The actual ride time from the initial high-speed launch to the final brake run is approximately 60 seconds, with the entire experience (including the slow return to the station) lasting about two minutes. While the outdoor "swoop" under the massive color-shifting canopy is visually stunning and the indoor "Grid" sequence features high-fidelity digital effects and a pulsing Daft Punk-inspired soundtrack, many fans feel the experience ends just as it reaches its peak. This brevity is often compared unfavorably to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT, which offers a much longer and more immersive journey. However, defenders of the ride argue that the intensity of the launch and the unique "bicycle-style" seating provide a concentrated burst of thrill that fits perfectly within the high-energy atmosphere of Tomorrowland, even if the "pure" coaster time is limited.

There's no magic number to weight or height when it comes to riding TRON Lightcycle Run. Rather, it's about the distribution of weight across your frame, as well as the size of your calves. It won't be uncommon for lean, tall, and muscular guests to have issues.

TRON does move up and down a fair bit, but there's very little of that “stomach-drop” feeling with your feet leaving the floor. That's for two reasons. The first is that on a Lightcycle your head points down, not your feet. But the bigger reason is that almost all of TRON's rise-and-drop motion includes a turn.

There's nothing slow about this ride. If you have a thrill seeker who enjoys speed, Tron will not be too scary for them. One thing to note: it's a relatively short ride that truly only lasts 60 seconds once in motion. So even if Tron turns out to be scary, it should be a very short experience.

You are seated very easily with a lap bar, and the vehicle is placed at the back of the coaster train. Overall, even though my test experience riding TRON was a little uncomfortable, I'm grateful to have had the option to use the accessibility car.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror If we're talking about the scariest rides at Disney World, I had to start with The Tower of Terror. I mean, it's all in the name! The TRON ride vehicles — or Lightcycles — are similar to a motorcycle. Like the vehicles on Avatar Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom, you will lean forward when you board, with leg restraints that come down around the back of your calves. The back of the seat will come down to secure you in as well.
