Volcano Bay is an awesome water park at Universal Orlando Resort in Florida that the whole family will love. We visited Volcano Bay when our four kids were all between 5-10 years old. It was a relaxing (yes relaxing, even with 4 kids) and enjoyable time for all of us.
The two water parks differ in their ownership, but the major difference between Typhoon Lagoon and Volcano Bay is the attractions. Volcano Bay, which is a Universal park, favors more thrilling attractions, with several large water slides.Typhoon Lagoon in Disney World is geared more toward a relaxing experience.
I personally love it. If you like water parks, I say it's a no-brainer to go. The theming is on pointe for a relaxed island vibe. The tapu-tapu system is so awesome for letting you have fun instead of standing in lines.
If you're looking for thrills, IOA is the place for you. If you want to enjoy a day in the water with your family, Volcano Bay is perfect. And if you're looking for a truly immersive and thematic experience, USF is the ideal choice.
It's not 100% necessary because there are lots of water sprinklers across the paths. I'm a bit mixed on them. Some slides have to be barefoot, so there are shoe racks at the entrance. However, often the exit to the slide is ages away from the shoe rack to you have to hoof it back to get your shoes.
Is the water heated at Volcano Bay? Yes, of course! Almost every water slide, pool, and lazy (or not-so-lazy) river is fully heated to at least 80 degrees, which is what allows the water park to remain open almost every day of the year.
TapuTapu. Volcano Bay's most recognizable feature is its free wearable technology called TapuTapu. Each Tapu is similar in size to a watch and features an LCD screen and wrist strap. These electronic bracelets replace the need for credit cards, paper tickets, cell phones, and locker keys throughout the park.
Volcano Bay TowelsDoes Volcano Bay provide towels? Yes, but you have to pay for them ($6 as of 2023). So take your own to avoid having to rent Volcano Bay towels. Hotels don't want you to take their room towels to the water park, so I highly recommend traveling with thin linen towels.
From their website: Lockers can be found in all three sections of Universal's Volcano Bay™. There are three different locker sizes available: mini, regular, and family ($8, $12 and $15 respectively). Helpful?
The wearable is immediately disassociated from your guest account upon your return of the wearable at the park exit. Lost or missing wearables can be immediately placed on hold or completely disassociated by Guest Services or Concierge Hut Team Members.
